Strumming Patterns

In order to understand strumming, you have to look at basic patterns to know there are many ways you can strum. In these two exercise, focus on strumming an E Major chord multiple ways. When you feel comfortable enough, strum an E in one measure and an A in another. Above the pattern you will see arrows signifying up or down, as well as up or down marked by a D or U. There is an additional rhythmic drum pattern below it to show you the beat you are actually playing rhythmically if you were playing it on the snare drum. Remember don’t rush it. It may be a good idea to start at 60 bpms if you are using a metronome.
