Playing Open Chords

Playing Open Chords

An open chord is a chord that involves an open string or strings in playing a chord. This means that the string is not fretted, therefore the string will just ring out. As a beginner guitar player, there are 5 essential chords to learn, part of the open chord family. They are A, C, D, E, & G. These are referred to as the Major chords. The 3 essential chords to learn in the minor family are Am, Em, & Dm.

Quick Tip! If you see a chord written A or G, it is already assumed it will be a Major chord. There will not always be something written after it, however a minor chord will always have a little m after it.
