Metronomes & Timing

Get a metronome. Unless you’ve got a drummer behind you setting a pace, a metronome will help ensure your timing is consistent. Some metronomes have tuning capabilities as well. They cost a little more, but it’s well worth it to have both. Remember it’s all about timing, so if your rhythm is off, your solos may be out of time as well. However long it takes, practice whatever you are playing until it sounds polished. The metronome is your friend, and not your enemy.

Quick Tip !! Before diving into using the metronome, which is a great tool, know what you are playing before using it. It may be more of a distraction if you aren’t comfortable with what you’re playing yet. That means know what you are playing, and once you’ve committed it to the learning process, you should push with the metronome.
